Rationality

Posted in Q & A

Q: Who decides what is rational?
A: It’s not who; it’s what.
Reason is the non-contradictory identification of the facts of reality – which begs the question, how do we know what the facts are?

Because we can see it, we all know there is a moon in the sky. We know it as a fact because we can see it. It is our senses that provide us with the raw data about reality. Our ability to think allows us to integrate that data, draw logical conclusions, resolve contradictions – to reason.

Ultimately it is reality that determines whether our thinking has been rational or not. It is our job to identify the nature of reality and what it can be made to do - we all make mistakes in this effort – hopefully we learn from them.
