THE SOCIALIST

Quote: "Capitalism is literally making profit off of the labor of the workers. Why do none of you dorks understand that. If you want the most compensation and autonomy within the workplace then you should support socialism. Socialism gives you democratic rights within the workplace that you don't have under capitalism. You're also going to be better compensated because you no longer have the extraction of value from your labor that creates profit."

Speaking of dorks – why do you not understand that a business is supposed to make a profit off the labour of their workers.

First of all, what do you think you’re doing when you go to work for someone? You take the job because your time is worth less than the money you are paid – you’re working to make a profit. And the employer is not going to hire you if you’re not able to produce at a rate that is more than the money he pays you. The idea here is that both profit – it’s a win win trade.

Secondly, where do you think the money came from to invest in the place where you work? It didn’t just pop out of a void. It came from profits. It’s investors with money made from profits that make entrepreneurs and thus jobs possible.

And guess what? You are an investor! If you have a bank account, insurance on a car or house, a pension plan or a dental plan, you are an investor. Your premiums are invested in things like a business or a mortgage on a house – imagine how long you would have to save for a house if you had to pay cash for it – it would take decades.

And if you want democratic rights in the workplace, what’s stopping you? It’s a free country. Go get a couple of dozen of your closest friends and buy a farm or a business and you all can run it democratically. You can vote on everything from one or two ply toilet paper to next year’s budget. Go ahead – give it a go.

And perhaps this dork can help you understand this. All these relationships under capitalism are made voluntarily – not like socialism which takes our money by force – at the point of a gun.
