Artificial Intelligence

Posted in Practical Issues, Q & A

What AI is not: It doesn’t care; it has no feelings or emotions; it lacks consciousness; it can’t want anything; it can’t think, but it seems to be doing something like thinking – we need new words for what it’s doing.
Stay with me here. With the advent of electricity, many new terms and definitions were required, not the least of which was Ampere named after the French physicist Andre-Marie Ampere. Perhaps there is a genius in engineering, mathematics and/or computer science out there that can discover the terms and definitions that explain more precisely what AI is doing and how it does it.
Obviously, the advent of electricity improved our lives beyond measure, and AI will do the same. Not that AI will have as profound an improvement on our lives as electricity, but it will be huge – and like electricity should be handled with care. There will be trials and tribulations, but as some would have us believe, AI will end human existence is just plain ludicrous.
AI has made advances in medical diagnosis, scientific research, education, technology and business. It has and will continue to advance virtually every human endeavor. It has been said that the only constant in the universe is change. Ai promises many changes to come – hang onto your hat, and enjoy the ride.
